My Yahoo! is a free web service that has all the features and extras of a great social networking website; although, it is designed different from other sites we reviewed. To receive the full benefit of social networking, use My Yahoo!, Everything Yahoo! and Yahoo! 360° together.

You can personalize your My Yahoo! homepage with different color schemes and layouts as well as add or delete your favorite news feeds, scoreboards and weather alerts.

From your homepage, click on “More Yahoo” to link to the Everything Yahoo! page. From there you have access to most of the social networking features—including extras, offered by other social networking sites.

The main page of Everything Yahoo! is an index of services offered by the entire Yahoo! network such as music, videos, TV, news, horoscopes, safety tips, classifieds and groups.

The Yahoo! services work well together as a social networking website because members can easily link back and forth between the services.

Yahoo! 360° offers networking features such as customized profiles, friend networks, photos, chats and blogs. You can choose from over one hundred profile skins, upload multiple photos, upload videos, music and post your own blog.

Use browse or search by gender and age to locate other Yahoo! 360° members. Click on a member’s name or photo to access their profile page; from there you can post comments or invite them into you network of friends.

A fun networking feature is Yahoo! Avatars. You can create a graphic representation of yourself or your personality. Your Avatar will identify you in IM chats, forums, games and message boards. Create multiple male and female Avatars. You can customize your Avatar’s appearance with dozens of choices for hairstyles, clothing and accessories. Also, choose from hundreds of backgrounds such as landscapes, logos or colorful textures.

People who want to network with other people who share their interests or hobbies will love Yahoo! Groups. You can choose from 16 main categories such as Business & Finance, Computers & Internet, Cultures & Community, Entertainment & Arts, Games and Romance & Relationships. Under each main category, there are dozens of sub–categories.

The minimum age to sign up for an account on the main Yahoo! network is 13; however, you must be 18 to join Yahoo! 360° due to some adult content such as sexually charged language and sexually explicit photos. You can report offensive content through a link on member’s profiles. If Yahoo! 360° determines that the content violates their Terms of Service Agreement, they will delete the content and possibly cancel the member’s account.

My Yahoo! and the Yahoo! network provides a large list of FAQs or you can search for answers to your questions in their help forums, but they do not provide contact information.

Through the Yahoo! network, My Yahoo! provides plenty of social networking features and extras, but some people may prefer and all–in–one website.
